Joe Nichols - Brokenheartsville

This was the number one song nines years ago! How many of you remember it? The album "Man with a Memory", which this song comes from, earned Nichols a Top New Male Vocalist award from the Academy of Country Music, as well as three Grammy Award nominations. "Brokenheartsville" was the second single from this album and became his first #1 hit on the Billboard country charts in 2003. So do you remember it? Do you like it?

Reba McEntire - Somebody's Chelsea

Yesterday was Reba's 57th birthday. To wish her a happy birthday we are wishing her a happy birthday by sharing "Somebody's Chelsea". It is a great song about a super cute love story. She is one of the most successful female country artists.

Tammy Wynette- Stand By Your Man

This weeks Western Wednesday is brought to you by Tammy Wynette. Tammy Wynette was known as the First Lady of Country Music, and her best-known song, "Stand by Your Man", was one of the biggest selling hit singles by a woman in the history of the country music genre. Many of Tammy Wynette's hits dealt with classic themes of loneliness, divorce and the difficulties of male-female relationships. (Source)

Lonestar hit the country music scene big in the 1990s. As rumor has it they have since broken up. I could not find any information confirming or denying this.

Sugarland - Baby Girl

I can't believe it had taken me this long to post about Sugarland. They are great! Some say they are too twangy but I love them. A little information about Sugarland. Sugarland, an American country music duo, is composed of singer–songwriters Jennifer Nettles (lead vocals) and Kristian Bush (background vocals, lead vocals, mandolin, acoustic guitar, and harmonica). Sugarland was founded in 2002 by Kristen Hall with Bush and ultimately became a trio after hiring Jennifer Nettles as lead singer. After three years, Hall left the group. They signed to Mercury Nashville Records in 2004. Sugarland broke through that year with the release of their debut single "Baby Girl", the first single from their multi-platinum debut album Twice the Speed of Life. George Hamilton IV - Abilene

It's Western Wednesday again! Today we have a song called "Abilene" by George Hamilton IV. A relation to me? I don't know. George Hamilton IV began performing in the late 1950s as a teen idol, later switching to country music in the early 1960s. Abilene is the title of a song written by Bob Gibson and John D. Loudermilk, and recorded by American country music artist George Hamilton IV. The song reached number one on the U.S. country music chart for four weeks, and peaked at number 15 on the pop music charts. George Hamilton IV performed "Abilene" in the 1963 movie Hootnanny Hoot. Bob Gibson was inspired to write the song after watching the Randolph Scott movie, "Abilene Town." The setting for the movie was Abilene, Kansas, the rail head town at the end of the Chisholm Trail. Gibson said that the song had often been erroneously thought to be about Abilene, Texas, a town named for the Kansas cow town that had been established 24 years earlier. Although Abilene, TX is believed to better fit the qualities depicted in the song. (Source)

Rascal Flatts - Easy ft. Natasha Bedingfield

Who doesn't love a good country group mixing with a great pop artist. Rascal Flatts have been around since 2000. They have done a variety of different things in their 12 years as a group. This song came from the album "Nothing Like This". This is the band's first collaborative release to country radio, "Easy", which features a duet vocal from British singer Natasha Bedingfield. Blake Shelton - Austin

As promised, this is the Blake Shelton song. There is something about this song that I just love so much! It came out in 2001, as Blake Shelton's debut with the single "Austin". "Austin" was released as the lead-off single from his self-titled debut album. "Austin" went on to spend five weeks at Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. This song was the first single from his gold-certified debut album, which also produced two more Top 20 hits. (Source)

Miranda Lambert - Over You

Miranda Lambert, wife of Blake Shelton, hit the country music scene in 2003, gained fame as a finalist on Nashville Star, where she finished in third place and later signed to Epic Records. The song "Over You" was co written by Miranda and Blake. "Over You" is a country ballad written by Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton about a personal experience Shelton had as a teen when he lost his older brother in a car accident. According to Lambert, she decided to record the song because of Shelton's emotional connection to the song: "Blake said he couldn't record [it] for himself or sing it onstage every night, but he would be honored for me to." She's Got It All

I love this song and I hope you will too. "She's Got It All" is the title of a song recorded by American country music artist Kenny Chesney that reached the top of the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. It was released in May 1997 as the lead-off single from his 1997 album I Will Stand, and Chesney's first Number One single on the country charts. (Source)

Feature Friday-Good Girl

Introducing a new section of This Is Country Music, Feature Friday. On Friday I will post about the requests I have been receiving. This was requested by Mo. The music video "Good Girl" by Carrie Underwood was released two days ago. It is her lead off track for her fourth album "Blown Away" which will be released on May 1. Western Wednesday-Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys

Bob Wills (1905-1975) is considered to be the co founder of Western Swing and was Universally known as the king of Western Swing. He formed his Texas Playboys in 1934. This is their rendition of San Antonio Rose that was played between double features at the movie theater in the 40s.

A Little More Country Than That

Easton Corbin signed to Mercury Records Nashville in 2009. He released his self titled debut album in March of 2010. Two #1 hits came from this album "A Little More Country Than That" and "Roll With It". He is a little newer to the country world than some of the other artists who have been featured. I really like this song. What do you think?

Julie Roberts... Another One Hit Wonder

Do any of you remember Julie Roberts? If you do you may be thinking she is a One Hit Wonder too. Did you know she made her debut in 2004 with the single "Break Down Here". It was a Top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks. Her next album "Men & Mascara" (2006) produced two non-charting singles. She released her third album on June 7, 2011. as an independent artist.

Toby Keith - I Wanna Talk About Me

This is a favorite song from high school. A few of my friends thought I was really vain or something and would always tease by singing this song and saying, "I wanna talk about Char wanna talk about Char wanna talk about Charley Williams what she thinks what she likes what I think about her and occasionally what I think about Scott. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this song that was released on August of 2011.

Hank Thompson's song "The Wild Side Of Life" expresses regret his bride-to-be has left him for another man whom she met in a roadhouse, stating, "I didn't know that God made honky tonk angels." That song and its appeal to people who "thought the world was going to hell and that faithless women deserved a good deal of the blame ... just begged for an answer from a woman". Kitty Wells answered Hank Thompson's song with "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels". She is known as the Queen of Country Music. Her 1952 hit recording, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" made her the first female country singer to top the U.S. country charts, and turned her into the first female country star. The song was the first No. 1 Billboard Country Hit for a solo female artist. (Source)

Old Time Favorite

Have you ever heard of Trisha Yearwood? She is one of my favorites! She came to prominence with her debut single, "She's in Love with the Boy" which became a #1 hit on the Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in 1991. Did you know she is married to Garth Brooks? He is a famous basically retired country star too. They were married in December of 2005.
