Dustin Lynch - Cowboys And Angels

Have you heard the song "Cowboys and Angels" by Dustin Lynch? I think it is a great love story! Lynch moved to Nashville in 2003 to pursue a career in country music. He signed to Broken Bow Records in late 2011, and he released his debut single "Cowboys and Angels" in January 2012. Lynch wrote the song with Josh Leo and Tim Nichols. That same month, Country Weekly began streaming his songs on their website. He used to work at a chemistry lab and also worked as a song writer writing more than 200 songs in under 2 years. The album's second single "She Cranks My Tractor" released to country radio in November 19, 2012.
I see some serious potential coming from Dustin Lynch. What do you think?

Blown Away my 100th Post

This is my 100th Post on This Is Country Music. I have loved this blog and the opportunity it has given me to share my love of country music with you. The post to receive the most hits can be found here. At the time the 100th post was written it had received 6,565 views. Now to talk about this song!

Blown Away is the fourth studio album from American country singer Carrie Underwood. It was released in the United States and Canada on May 1, 2012. The album debuted at number one on Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 267,000 copies. (Source)

It became the second-largest opening of 2012. With Blown Away reaching number one, Underwood became the third female to chart at number one on the Billboard 200 with three country albums, tying her with Linda Ronstadt and Faith Hill. Like her three previous albums, Blown Away debuted at the top of the Country Albums chart, making Underwood the second female to send every album released to number one, along with Miranda Lambert. The album remained at number one for a second week on the Billboard 200, becoming Underwood's first album to spend more than one week at the top. (Source)

Kenny Chesney - Young

This song was on the radio this morning as I was driving to work. It really hit me especially after talking to a friend over the weekend about how we never thought time would fly the way our parents told us it would. Now I look back and see all that I have accomplished and the many different chapters in my book that I have closed. Thank you Kenny for putting the music to my thoughts and feelings.

Hank Williams Jr & Sr - There's A Tear In My Beer

This Western Wednesday post takes us all the way back to 1950. "There's a Tear in My Beer" is a country song written and recorded by Hank Williams, and later re-recorded by his son in 1988. The original version was written and recorded by Hank Williams during one of his Nashville sessions in 1950-51, but he decided against releasing it. It was not until many years later, in 1989, that the original song would get its first official release. (Source)

Hank Williams, Jr.'s version is a duet with his father created using electronic merging technology. As the song had been previously recorded with Hank Williams playing the guitar as the sole instrument, his son and his band simply "filled in the blanks" and recorded additional vocals. The music video for the song combined television footage that had existed of Hank Williams performing, onto which electronic merging technology impressed the recordings of Hank Jr., which then made it appear as if he were actually playing with his father. The video was both a critical and commercial success, and was named Video Of The Year by both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country music. Hank Williams, Sr. & Jr., would go on to "share" a Grammy award win in 1990 for Best Country Vocal Collaboration. (Source)

Western Wednesday with Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash was an American singer-songwriter, actor, and author, who has been called one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. "I Walk the Line" is a song written by Johnny Cash and recorded in 1956. After three attempts with moderate chart ratings, "I Walk the Line" became the first number one Billboard hit for Cash. Chad Brock - Yes!

It came as no surprise to me that this song was a One Hit Wonder because while it is one of my favorites, I can never remember who sings it. He is a former professional wrestler and he did have 2 “hit” songs, but it was “Yes!” that went to the top of the charts. Since then, none of his releases have topped #47. (Source)

I don't even know anything else he sings, so if you do please let me know.

Kelcy Lee

Ok here it is. One Hit Wonder week. I want to know if you think she is a one hit wonder or is she going to make it! Leave a comment to let me know you opinion of Kelcy Lee.

This song is called "Hard To Be A Girl". Kelcy Lee is barely 18, but worked hard enough to graduate from high school at barely 16 so she could make the move to Music City from Pahrump, Nevada, a small desert town between Las Vegas and Death Valley. Kelcy also plays guitar and writes songs, and Kelcy is learning the co-writing ropes with a Nashville favorite, singer/songwriter Bill DiLuigi, who took her under his wing after she cut one of his songs while still living in Nevada. She has managed to get some airplay in both Nevada and Tennessee. (Source)

She also shot a music video for “Hard to Be a Girl,” a humorous look at the trials and tribulations of a teenage girl with an overprotective father trying to find a boyfriend. This song is one of her co-writes with DiLuigi, and the video, which can be seen on YouTube, was clearly shot in her desert home of Nevada. She’s currently planning to record an album soon and is planning for the entire album to be her own original material. DiLuigi predicts a bright future for the teenager: “She’s really got something different. She’s very focused and she knows who she is.”(Source)

Chris Cagle - I Breathe In, I Breathe Out

Chris Cagle's debut album Play It Loud. The album, which was certified gold in the United States, also produced the Top 10 hit "Laredo" and "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out", his only number one hit. There are so many songs of his that I love, it is too ad he hasn't seen more success than one number one hit! (Source)

If you like Chris Cagle be sure to check out more of his songs! They are great. I would reccommend "Laredo" and "What a Beautiful Day".

Merle Haggard - The Legend of Bonnie & Clyde

Today for Western Wednesday we are going to look at Merle Haggard. He is an American country music song writer, singer, guitarist, fiddler and instrumentalist. Along with Buck Owens, Haggard and his band The Strangers helped create the Bakersfield sound, which is characterized by the unique twang of Fender Telecaster and the unique mix with the traditional country steel guitar sound, new vocal harmony styles in which the words are minimal, and a rough edge not heard on the more polished Nashville Sound recordings of the same era. By the 1970s, Haggard was aligned with the growing outlaw country movement, and has continued to release successful albums through the 1990s and into the 2000s. In 1997, Merle Haggard was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. (Source)

Whitney Duncan - When I Said I Would (video)

I vaguely remember this song from back in August of 2008, so I thought it would make a great feature Friday! Whitney Duncan was the fifth place finalist on the fifth season of Nashville Star. She has released one studio album and has charted at #48 on the U.S. country singles charts with "When I Said I Would". She was also on Survivor: The South Pacific in 2011. (Source)

She seems to have had quite a bit of success. I feel like I know what is going on in the country music world, but I've not heard too much about her. Do you think she is here to stay? Maybe she is more of a one hit wonder story? Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Whitney's song "So Sorry Mama" is featured in the Footloose movie and on the soundtrack. She sang and co-wrote "So Sorry Mama" with John Shanks and Gordie Sampson. "So Sorry Mama" was also on her "Right Road Now" CD released on Warner Brothers in 2010. Whitney will be releasing a new full album in May. (Source)

Charley Pride - Kiss an Angel Good Morning

How many of you have ever heard of Charley Pride? This song "Kiss an Angel Good Morning" was his most successful song. Charley Pride is an American country music singer. His smooth baritone voice was featured on thirty-nine number-one hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. His greatest success came in the early- to mid-1970s, when he became the best-selling performer for RCA Records since Elvis Presley. His chart success and recordings since the late 1980s have been sporadic, but Pride continued touring successfully. Pride is one of the few Black country musicians to have had considerable success in the largely Caucasian country music industry and the only one to be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. In 2010, Pride became a special investor and minority owner of the Texas Rangers baseball club. (Source)

In 1971, he would release what would become his biggest hit "Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'", a million-selling crossover single that helped Pride land the Country Music Association's prestigious Entertainer of the Year award, as well as Top Male Vocalist. He won CMA's Top Male Vocalist award again in 1972. "Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'" became Pride's signature tune. Besides being a five-week country #1 in late 1971 and early 1972, the song was also his only pop Top 40 hit, hitting #21, and reaching the Top Ten of the Adult Contemporary charts as well. (Source)

Trace Adkins - You're Gonna Miss This

This song is making me realize so much right now, especially where I am getting ready to graduate. I think I have spent my whole life waiting to grow up and now that I am, I am not ready to. This is Trace Adkins's fastest-climbing single to date, this song was his third Number One hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, as well as a #12 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and #19 on the Pop 100 charts.
